As winter melts into spring, the world around us starts to wake up. The same shift happens within our bodies. In Ayurveda, spring is the season of Kapha—characterised by earth and water elements, bringing heaviness, moisture, and a sense of stagnation if not balanced properly. If you've been feeling sluggish, congested, or unmotivated, it may be time to shake off excess Kapha and embrace the lightness of the new season!

Signs of Excess Kapha in Spring:
Feeling heavy or sluggish
Congestion or seasonal allergies
Lack of motivation or mental fog
Water retention or bloating
1. Lighten Up Your Diet
Spring calls for warm, light, and dry foods to counterbalance Kapha's heaviness.
Try incorporating:
Spicy, bitter, and astringent flavours (think ginger, turmeric, leafy greens)
Warm teas with cinnamon, black pepper, or fennel
Light grains like quinoa or millet instead of heavy wheat and rice
Avoiding excessive dairy, fried foods, and sweets, which increase Kapha
2. Move and Energise
Kapha benefits from movement and stimulation! Try:
Morning walks in the fresh air
Invigorating yoga practices (sun salutations, backbends, and twists)
Dance or cardio workouts to shake off stagnation
Warming self-massage with dry brushing or a light oil like mustard or sesame
3. Embrace a Fresh, Uplifting Routine
Since Kapha tends to create lethargy, structure and stimulation help! Try:
Wake up early (before 6 AM) to align with nature's rhythm
Start the day with a warm glass of water and lemon
Declutter your space—spring cleaning isn’t just for your home; it’s for your mind too!
Spend time outdoors to soak in the energizing spring sun
